Inspector, Commanding Officer 1st Precinct –
Inspector McKenna is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and attended Nassau County Community College, Suffolk County Community College, University of Virginia, and Long Island University. He began his law enforcement career in 1975 and joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1981. He served as a patrol officer in the 3rd Precinct and Marine Bureau. Upon promotion to Sergeant, he served in the 1st Precinct, as the commanding officer of the Domestic Violence & Elder Abuse Bureau, and as the commanding officer of the Grants Development Section. Upon promotion to Lieutenant, he served in the 1st Precinct, the Office of the Chief of Support Services, and as the commanding officer of the Research & Development Section. After being promoted to Captain, he served in the 2nd Precinct, the Internal Affairs Bureau, the Office of the Police Commissioner, and as the commanding officer of the Risk Management Bureau. Upon promotion to Deputy Inspector, he served as the executive officer of the Office of Homeland Security & Anti-Terrorism, and as the executive officer of the 1st Precinct. He has been the commanding officer of the 1st Precinct since November, 2009.
